reading writing and eating neccesary

Reading and writing of course being less important than eating as far as human needs. However they are still important both as a societal member and as a scholar. One would need to be able to read in order to write and writing is the most successful way to preserve ones ideas. Most people attempt to leave there mark on history and writing has been the best way to do this. People still read the writings of people that where written thousands of years ago in sense passed civilizations works that would only be communicated if they where to be written. Reading on the other hand is significant for learning. These people that died many a year ago spent many years developing there ideas and deciding what was important enough to be written. Instead of modern people taking the time to figure out these things for ourselves we will be more successful in life to learn from these past people by reading there thoughts in order to not waste our lives figuring things that have been figured for thousands of years. Eating likewise is to provide your body with nourishment which it requires to live . So no matter what type of person you are. Some might try to argue that writing and reading are not important to them as a person. I would argue that even if you have never read a book or wrote a sentence you are still benefiting from others who have. Unless you are a child born in the woods with no ties to society at all you have in some way benefited from the written word. It has moved our society considerably from where we have been with out the literation of the written word society as a whole would not grow nearly as fast. (H1)

  1. Literacy is the intellectual meat and potato of modern society. The definition of a flourishing life is debatable, but in my eyes, without the fruits of literacy, I would not be able be who I want to be.

  3. I agree that everyone benefits from reading and writing. It is all around us and most people don't realize the importance of literacy.
