Kant's regularity

Reading about the daily routine of Kant made me think about my daily routines. There are certain things that are a part of my everyday routine, such as brushing my teeth or eating meals. Sometimes it becomes easy just to ease into a routine, and day in and day out do the same thing every day. Humans as a species are creatures of habit, so we like to have structure and routines. However, I think that having such a routine is a dangerous to the human spirit. If you allow yourself to become complacent with your life and don't take risks on a regular basis every day, then you are missing out on a very important aspect of life. Spontaneity and creativity are the driving forces that allow us to experience life to the fullest and make for a fulfilling life. Having new experiences and making memories is something that will not happen if you stay in the same routine day after day, week after week. Most of my most treasured memories come from times when I did something out of the ordinary; I didn't know what to expect but I did it anyway without thinking about what the outcome would be. This in my opinion is one of the most crucial things that a young person can do with their time, because youth is not forever. So next time you think about settling in for your daily netflix time, try to think of another new way to spend your time, and you may be surprised at what you enjoy (H3).

  1. Personally, having a routine is impossible for me. I have tried and it never works out. I do things at my own pace and in whatever order I feel like. Nothing is ever set for me.

  3. I agree with you wholeheartedly on your stance on routines, however, I feel like you still need one. After all, if you don't have a routine to begin with how are you going to break one to experience that spontaneity? Routine also allows for more fluidity and smoothness in certain areas. For example, having a routine at school is great. It would be insane if you had no idea what days which classes were gonna be or where or what you would be doing in that class. You don't want to have routine in something like love, for instance. Routine in a relationship leads to boredom and then lack of interest. Routine is one thing that I believe we need absolutely, just need it at the right times.
