HellFire H01

I feel that many people are probably going to talk about this during their essay, so I figured my two cents in as well.

If any of you miraculously missed it, there has been two gentlemen posted up in front of the Student Union for most of the week blatantly screaming that every single one of us students are going to Hell for some reason or another, and God doesn't listen to us because we are all sinners, and so on and on.

If you did happen to miss him, you are a blessed and lucky soul.

I just feel that this person has literally sought us out to yell and claim that he is spreading the message. Now, I'm not Christian, but he is what gives Christians a bad rap. I know for a fact that literally 98.75% of what he is saying is absolutely false and has no grounds in the Bible or any other modern religion for that matter. Listening to this man speak has honestly made me lose brain cells this week and it reminded me of the cave analogy.

This man honestly believes that what he is doing is educating us all and enlightening us. He believes we are in a cave of sin and his belligerent and ignorant words of hate and hellfire are teaching us and showing us a new world. Yet, these people who are hearing his message are hearing only hate and not the love that we should be shown.

Is what he is doing good or bad? This is the question that shows up again and again in this class. Perhaps some philosophers would claim that what he is doing is good, as he is trying to spread what he believes to be 'truth.' On a more realistic side, can you see any good from belittling and telling hundreds and thousands of young adults daily that they shall soon be punished?

I just want to have a sit down with this man, no chaos and no screaming, to see why it is that he feels what he is doing is for the greatest good of society.

  1. I do not agree that he truly believes what he is saying. I have not personally watched him speak. However, many who have have made reference to his facial expression when engaging students and getting their responses. It seems as though he has ulterior motives behind doing these things. If our students would stop congregating around him them maybe we could get him to go away. Also, if we moved the space on campus where he could come then maybe the crowd would lessen as well.

I actually have been reading other people's essays on the man and I can see now where they are coming from on the whole him doing it for attention. I guess he had me so angry that I did not even really pick up his true intentions. I guess when it came to me, he got what he wanted.

  2. I listened to a few minutes of the man and had to walk away laughing because I heard him spew out so many "facts" that were blatantly incorrect without an ounce of truth. I am not christian, but I know many and they are not all like this. Most are not and many have gone around expressing this because they have to defend their religion from people like them.

Yeah, that's my point of view too. I know plenty of Christians that arent't that, for lack of a better word, plain crazy. He went above and beyond and makes many Christians ashamed of themselves for who they are.

  3. (H3) Honestly, I found his "speech", if that's what you want to call it, hilarious. In the 5 mins that I spent over there listening, he went from condemning Odin to condemning Darwin. His information was completely wrong and made him look like the arrogant, ignorant fool he is. I am glad I got to hear how fallacious his argument was because it made it even easier to disregard everything he said.

I agree, he had completely no idea what in the world he was talking about. He kept saying that certain things were in the Bible and people were in the audience pulling the verses up and telling him he said it wrong and everything, it was quite funny.
