My name is Kaylee Herrington, and I believe in
the power of prayer. In my lowest moments and my darkest times, the only words
I can manage to say is “Jesus help me.” Like anyone else I’ve had rough times
in my life, and one thing that truly helps me through these times is prayer. I
believe in prayer. I believe in simply talking to God and taking your problems
to the Lord. I believe in having a personal relationship with the one I believe
created me, and the only way I feel like I can do that is through prayer.
When
I was younger I faced something that I hope no one ever has to face, and that
was the terrible disease of cancer. Hearing the words that you have cancer are
some of the scariest words that anyone can ever hear. At the time I couldn’t
believe it, and I didn’t want to go through what I knew I was going to have to.
The doctors told me it was treatable, and all about the treatments I would have
to undergo. They told me not to worry too much, that they really thought I
would be okay. Honestly though, that didn’t really make me feel any better
about the situation I was in. I still had this disease invading my body and I
felt like there was nothing I could do about it. I felt completely helpless,
and from that moment on the only thing I knew to do was pray. I prayed every
night and every day. I went through countless treatments and eventually ended
up having surgery. After losing all my hair and a kidney, I was finally cancer
free. I was incredibly thankful to the doctors that helped heal me, but above
all I was grateful to God for taking that disease from my body. I was thankful
to have him in my heart, and for him getting me through some of the toughest
nights of my life.
