Final. Installment #2 section 12 . Epicurus.

Epicurus had many philosophies. one of these was his philosophy about happiness. According to Epicurus "the most pleasurable life is one where we abstain from unnecessary desires and achieve an inner tranquility (ataraxia) by being content with simple things, and by choosing the pleasure of philosophical conversation with friends over the pursuit of physical pleasures like food, drink, and sex". Epicurus uses this philosophy to guide him so that he will have a "happy" life.
He believed that all you really need to be happy is to be able to live a simple life with good friends who you can have philosophical conversations with.  Epicurus said that you can train your mind to relive a moment of happiness and see it as if it was actually happening again . you could do this even when you are in a lot of pain.
He claims that there are two beliefs that make all men unhappy. The first is that we will be punished by our gods if we do anything wrong. The second one is that death should be feared. He says that these two beliefs cause fear and anxiety ; however they should not because they are not real. Epicurus believed that the gods did exist but they did not concern themselves with human affairs. He associates pain with pleasure and says we only seek out pleasure when we are in pain and the best way to get rid of this cycle is to create the mind set that there is no pain. this causes you to be more happy by not seeking out pleasure like food, drink, and sex.

Philosophy in doing good by others/ This I Believe: Our Brother's Keeper

In my first installment of the philosophy of caring for others, I used an essay from the popular novel, This I Believe to give an example of the kind actions a young man did for a complete stranger in need. The homeless man was very grateful, and the young man who helped him changed his life by doing something so small. I feel that there is some philosophy behind those who have a caring heart to reach out when others are in need. However there are also humans that feel no need to help others due to their own internal feelings towards people. Whether you know someone or not, there should always be a sense of care towards whoever is in need in my opinion, but not everyone thinks the same. I believe that many individuals who do not feel the need to help others have their own personal problems that caused them to treat other with a negative attitude, which is not right. The bible says, "Treat others the way you should be treated." I have a kind hear, and I have always reached out to others even if I did not know them, partially because of the way I was brought up. I know that blessings come when u treat others right and care for others, which is one reason I am so selfless. We are given the opportunity to do what is right, and I think there is more meaning to us who have kindness in our hearts versus those who choose to be selfish and not reach out to those in need. During the young adolescent years, many people experience certain situations that may scar them and cause them to be angry for reasons we may not understand, and I believe this has an effect on how they treat people later in life.
