The philosopher I would most like
to meet would be Pyrrho. This is mainly due to personal reasons, as I would
just like to hold a conversation with someone who doesn’t believe anything. I
find it interesting that he was able to doubt EVERYTHING. Did he go to sleep
every night unsure if he would wake up or not? Was he constantly terrified of
this? Did he even believe in being terrified by something like this? This type
of conversation seems highly interesting to me. With only my mind to think over
these scenarios, I find it near impossible for me to doubt most of the
information that I “think” I know. I am not fully convinced that Pyrrho
actually doubted every possible thing that came into his mind. I think he “knew”
certain things, at least he “thought” that he did. He merely pretended to doubt
so that he could develop his own version of skepticism. Throughout my blog
posts, I will be explaining the questions I would most like to ask Pyrrho as
well as what I believe his answers would have been if he were able to answer
them.
I think his answers would be noncommital.
ReplyDelete"Did he go to sleep every night unsure if he would wake up or not? Was he constantly terrified of this?" Plenty of kids still do this every night. When I was five I was taught to say this nightly prayer: "If I should die before I wake..." If they were skeptics, they'd not be frightenend. Maybe that's why Pyrrho was one.
