Lyceum

The MTSU Department of Philosophy is pleased to announce a spring Lyceum lecture by Professor James Bielo (Miami University) entitled, “Immersive Christianity: Religion, Entertainment, and Globalization."
James S. Bielo is Lecturer in the Dept. of Anthropology at Miami University. As a teacher-scholar at Miami, he primarily teaches courses in cultural and linguistic anthropology, ethnography, religion, American communities, and globalization. His ethnographic work focuses on the varieties of American evangelicalism in the context of global Christianity. Dr. Bielo is the author of Anthropology of Religion: The Basics (Routledge, 2015), Emerging Evangelicals: Faith, Modernity, and the Desire for Authenticity (NYU Press, 2011), Words upon the Word: An Ethnography of Evangelical Bible Study (NYU Press, 2009), and the editor of The Social Life of Scriptures: Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Biblicism (Rutgers Press, 2009).
The lecture will be held Friday, March 27, 2015 at 5:00 in the College of Education Building, Room 164 on the MTSU Campus. The lecture is free and open to the public. A discussion period as well as an informal reception will follow the lecture.
