Epicurus & Epictetus

They're not the same guy, don't be confused. Clearly, though, some Internet quote-poster was. These look like the same stony face. But appearances can be deceiving. (Remember, it was the pre-Instagram era.)

Same Mama, maybe? Philosophia, or Lady Wisdom?

But, no: check the timeline. Centuries separate 'em (341-277 BCE, 50-125).

  1. That Epicurus quote is my favorite argument against God. It is not in your face, it does not say wether you should think God exists or not, it just asks pertinent questions.

What you mean to say is that it's your favorite Epicurus Internet meme. He didn't write that. Evidently, your knowledge of Epicurus is limited to the garbage dumped onto the Internet by people, like yourself, who didn't read the extant fragments of Epicurus for themselves.

Clearly this WAS Epicurus that wrote this!. How could it possibly be an Internet meme? They didn't have the internet back in those days!!

The quote regarding God is NOT from Epicurus. Do your homework.

Allow me to add to educate you by adding to my previous comment. The quote is from Hume: "Is he willing to prevent evil, but not able? then is he impotent. Is he able, but not willing? then is he malevolent. Is he both able and willing? whence then is evil?" - "Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion" - Part 10. As students of philosophy, you should be getting these quotes from the source, not Internet memes. Lame, lame, lame.
