A question on opinions

We've been reading about having strong opinions or avoiding them. This brought a question to mind.

Is it ok to have strong opinions or feelings?

If it is ok, why then are companies firing people for expressing opinions on the internet? Should they be firing or hiring people based on the fact that they have expressed an opinion? Should we be voting based on who believes as we believe?

If it is not ok, then can we, any of us, stop having strong opinions? Do we not always have at least one opinion on something? Or is it that only popular opinions should be expressed? Does that not stunt our growth as thinkers?

Should we be fearful of voicing our opinions in this day and age?
