Chuck Palahniuk - 4/4 - Pola Kopieniak

Chuck Palahniuk

Fight Club Philosophy:
Quote: "The things you own, end up owning you."

Analysis: This is one of my favorite quotes ever, because in this, Palahniuk is basically talking about how we (as a people) get so absorbed and involved in the things we buy and want to flaunt that we invest almost all of our time and most of our money on just physical and impractical belongings.

Quote: "It's only until we've lost everything that we're free to do anything."

Analysis: What I think Palahniuk is saying here (1:42) is that we are so involved in our lives, our families, and our possessions that we don't actually do what we want to do with the fear of being judged.

Invisible Monsters Philosophy:
Quote: "When we don't know who to hate, we hate ourselves."

Analysis: What I think Palahniuk is saying here is that we try to find something to make ourselves feel better about ourselves by hating and judging others, but when you can't find anyone or thing to judge, you end up hating yourself because you become so cynical in absorbed in trying to feel better about yourself

Haunted Philosophy:
Quote: "Yes, terrible things happen, but sometimes those terrible things, they save you."

Analysis: Here, Palahniuk is saying that no matter what happens in your life, you should look onto them as a step onto better things. As soon as you hit bottom, you can only go up. Palahniuk has had many experiences in his life where he thought it was the worst, but he has become successful from that, and it 'saved' him.
