College Years & First Loves

At age 18 before attending college Russell came to the conclusion that he was infact an athiest. Until then he had spent much time with the First Cause Arguement. Much of his conversion can be attributed to Mill's "Autobiography."

 Bertrand Russell attended Trinity College from 1890 to 1893.
He went there on a mathematics scholarship, and graduated top in his class in philosophy and mathmatics.

 He became became friends with  George Edward Moore and fell under the wing of Alfred North Whitehead, who recommended him to the Cambridge Apostles.

Russell first met the American Quaker Alys Pearsall Smith when he was 17 years old, she will become his first wife. She attended school near Philadelphia, PA. Russell's grandmother disapproved of their relationship but Russell asked her to marry him anyway. 

Their marriage began to go aery in 1901. One day when Russell was cycling he came to the conclusion that he no longer loved her. Aly took notice to Russell's change in behavior and asked him if he loved her and he told her that he did not. Russell was also not very keen to  Alys's mother, finding her manipulative and overbearing.  They finally divorced in 1921, after a lengthy period of separation

While they were seperated Russell went through slews of women including  Lady Ottoline Morrell and the actress Lady Constance Malleson.
