Section 10 Group 1 (Maybe The Philosophers) 9/4

Just want to apologize for the lateness of this post..

But our first topic of discussion was the questions, "Can an ignorant person be wise? Can a knowledgeable person be ignorant?". Our group was pretty much on the same page about this topic. We discussed that ignorance comes with knowledge, in a Socratic kind of way. You can be the expert of many things but still have ignorance. But we all agreed that education can set you in the right direction towards wisdom, but education isn't the only factor. Everyone also has some amount of wisdom based on experiences. Everyone experiences different things, and with those experiences comes wisdom other people might not have. So the group decided that with experience AND knowledge comes wisdom.

The next topic we discussed were our feelings on Socrates questioning method. It was said that his questioning methods were so hated because they took people out of their comfort zones and stirred up uncertainties. A point we brought up was that humans naturally do not like being uncertain or not knowing. A group member said religion is all about being certain about a certain fate and way of living, to ease the uncertainties of life after death. It was asked of the group, how deeply are people willing to go to put truth to their beliefs? The fear of becoming uncertain about something you've been so certain of for so long, even your whole life maybe, can most definitely stop people from searching deep into their own beliefs. We try to make sense of everything. So for the final thought, we all agreed that Socrates was only certain that he was uncertain.

If anyone has any questions or comments about the post feel free to post!
(Sorry again for the lateness)

According to Aristotle, true happiness cannot be attained in the short term, so, therefore, children are unable to reach true happiness due to their age. What is your view of true happiness? Do you agree with Aristotle? Also, do you think it's fair to say that it is possible to seek happiness?

  6. FQ: what is truth by authority?
DQ: It is easy for people to fall way from a persons original intentions. In the past we can blame this on lack of documentation/ word of mouth. But we can still see similar effects today despite our advanced communication and recording. What else is going on here?
