Why Not?

I didn't see a post for our group yet, so I'll go ahead and make one. On Monday, we went outside again since it was so nice out. Final presentations start tomorrow, so we'll probably be staying in for the remainder of the semester. (Reminder: that if you're doing one, you need to post a summary prior to your presentation.) The discussion on Monday was focused mainly on existentialism and what parts are applicable today.

  1. FQ: What journalist and professor wrote "America as a Civilization", which praised "American dynamism"?
    FQ,ANS: Max Lerner AP 281

DQ: Do you believe that America has a dynamic characteristic?

  2. FQ: Who wrote "Max Lerner: Pilgrim in the Promised Land."? (Sanford Lakoff AP pg. 282)

FQ: T/F: Max Lerner has been routinely overlooked as having an impact on American journalism by historians. (T. AP pg. 281-)

FQ: T/F: Lerner was an uneducated man going into the media business. (F, Max Lerner attended Yale. AP pg. 282)

DQ: Why is American journalism so important?

    Some more info on Lerner.

DQ: We all have studied WW2 and when many of us think of the Holocaust we think of Hitlers goal for the extinction of jews. What do you think of Arendt, a German Jew, saying in The Origins of Totalitarianism that the Holocaust was not about eradicating jews it was just a 'proxy'?
DQ: What distinctions do you make between Violence and Power?

Link: A movie was realeased about Arendt in 2012 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1674773/
Link: Bard College is where she is burried at and they have a neat collection of stuff at their "The Hannah Arendt Center For Politics and Humanities at Bard College" Here they have videos of lectures about her and topics relating to her and her intrests, blogs, hold events and confrences, and have a collection of information about Arendt and even have an Arendt library. I also really like the quote on their homepage "There are no dangerous thoughts thinking itself is dangerous."http://www.bard.edu/hannaharendtcenter/

  5. FQ: who did Time Magazine diagnose with a crush on America? (Max Lerner)

DQ: What characteristics do you think Lerner had which led this to say he has a crush on America?
