Thunder Dragons Group 3

Hey everyone sorry for the delay!

Yesterday in class we discussed Darwinism and religion. It came up that many people believe in Darwin's theory of Natural Selection, but can also believe that a creator is the reason for all life. Evolution there after does play apart on the organisms that were placed on this planet. However, many people that follow Christianity in this area of the country do not agree. I believe that is due to a conservative way of thinking and the lack of growing up with an understanding of biology. It makes since, why would you believe in Natural Selection if you didn't hear about it from people that learned from in your younger years. It's always hard to believe something when you grew up thinking one way, but it doesn't necessarily have to be black and white. You can believe in God and still believe that living thing evolve and adapt to their environment over time.
Look at the polar bear! Once a brown bear that had a genetic change in DNA which caused the bears fur to turn white. Living in icey conditions this bear is now more fit to hunt in the area as opposed the brown bear with can be easily spotted by prey.

  1. Our class discussion was pretty fantastic today. I was happy to see that i was not the only one who was a Christian and believed in evolution as well. I believe Dr. Oliver used the term Darwinian Theist to describe that point view. I believe he also said that his father shared that same point of view.

During my reading of Irving Howe, I loved how he chose to define the term critic and what the job of a critic is.

FQ: Howe credited what with making him a scholar? (18 month military service in Alaska in World War II [AP pg 213])
DQ: Would you that the youth are just "critics" and are appalling?

  3. I'm a Christian as well and I do believe that evolution is certainly plausible... Why? Well, it's kinda been proved by science. So.... there's no going against that. Now, did we come from monkeys? Nope. We sure didn't.

FQ: Marx was an egalitarian. True or False. (True)
FQ: What is an egalitarian? (He thought human beings should be treated equally.)
DQ: Does every single human being deserve to be treated equal to the entirety?
