Teenage Mutant Ninja Philosophers

Well we got to enjoy a nice day outside for class right before it snowed again! Our group had a lot of interesting things to say but we spent most of our time discussing reality. What exactly is it? Just because we can see things and hear things does that make them real? Or better yet, does that make us real? How does one truly define what is "real"? I think The Matrix does a fantastic job of addressing some of these questions and anyone who hasn't seen it should definitely check it out sometime. We also discussed some of the superstitions on campus such as the common belief that if you cross the seal, you will not graduate and how utterly absurd those superstitions are and that they were probably made up by seniors to scare freshman.  See you guys Wednesday!http://now-here-this.timeout.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/url-71.gif

Chandler, can you type up the names of everyone in our group and what all we wrote on that paper during the walk?

I posted this in the Philosoraptors group because we didn't have a post, but I figured I'd put it here too. So here's my post:

    Millican (PB)
FQ: Who are the big three British Empiricists?
FQ: Whose telescopic observations played a major role in overthrowing Aristotle's theory of the heavens?
FQ: What principle did people consider a real puzzle during Hume's time?
FQ: Who does Hume's thought experiment about billiard balls involve?
FQ: What does Hume say the basis for what we expect to happen is?
FQ: What "religion" does Peter Millican say Hume is?

DQ: What ground could we give for extrapolating the past to the future? (Hume's question, I just really liked it)

Here is a link to Hume's biography. It also includes a list of his works if anyone is interested.

Here is the post for my walking group:
    Chandler, Chris, Jordan, Yousef

The topic of our discussion was: "Is Reality Real?"
    Inquisitor: Yousef
    Author: Chris

-We discussed the "Rite of Passage" on campus and the superstition surrounding it. We considered superstition and began to wonder if there was an alternate reality where the idea behind the superstition could actually occur. Could superstition be based off of some alternate reality?
-We also discussed the idea of reality itself. How do we know we are real? Just because we see and hear things, does that make them real? Do our senses create the reality around us, and is it different than how we actually perceive it?

These were our two major discussions, and the group contributed to both. These are just short summaries of what we talked about.
