TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA PHILOSOPHERS!

So today we explored the great outdoors and we had (as Doge would say) "much fun."
We discussed many things about .. well everything.

Has the mysterious score card/sheet been discovered?

*all writers: make sure you have an idea // rough draft of what you are writing for the project*
(that means you, #yousef)

Instead of breaking into small groups of 3 our group remained together but we did have separate conversations: everyone should comment with what you discussed.

I will leave you with this.....

    Heyheyhey!
So, I was suppose to write about something from the LH reading. ^___^
FQ: What did Machiavelli say that an effective prince has to learn?
DQ: What do you guys think about Machiavelli's book The Prince?
    Sounds pretty cool to me.

Alright so I'm writing about pages 54-56 on Machiavelli (LH):

FQ: Who did Borgia place in charge of Romagna? (Hint: He also later had him murdered.)
FQ: Why did Borgia kill his own commander?
FQ: For Machiavelli, what was more important than how something is achieved?
FQ: Which does Machiavelli say it is more important for a leader to be, loved or feared?
FQ: What animals does Machiavelli say we, as humans, should learn from?
FQ: What does the adjective Machiavellian mean?

DQ: What do you think is more effective for a leader, to be loved or to be feared? Is there a possible balance of both?

This is a link if you want to buy "The Prince" by Machiavelli for like $5. I agree with Yousef that it sounds pretty cool.

Now that we understand what Machiavelli believes, some of these Machiavelli memes are actually interesting.

  3. Chase, Adam, and Long philosophical walking group: talked about how guitar teacher discipline and patience; about patriotism in our lives; languages and the boundaries they create; philosophy of normalcy (going off the beaten path) (climbed trees); how we expect most philosophers must have been on drugs when they wrote some of they crazy stuff they did.

  4. FQ: _______ believed that no ultimate test existed for determining what constitutes law in a particular system.
DQ: According to Dworkin, Judges "in hard cases, they must discover (not invent) the moral theory that 'best explains and justifies' rights established in settled law", agree or disagree?

  5. I love that genealogy! (But I'd put Russell ahead of Descartes.)

As for the mysteriously missing scorecard, if it doesn't turn up I'll have to ask you guys to dive back into our archives to count your DQs, FQs, & links up until last class... or else you can just decide to start again from scratch, treating last class as Day #1. Talk about that Monday.

(From now on I'll be "backing up" our scorecards periodically. I suggest we all get into the habit of recording our runs and total bases separately.)

  9. The outdoor "field trip" was a nice experience. We were able to break free from the status quo of class, and adventure around the campus of MTSU. I honestly believe that we should have a couple of more "field trips" before school is over.

FQ: Who thought that it was better to tell lies, break promises, and even murder your enemies? (Niccolo Machiavelli)
DQ: What do you rather? The painter's example or the island example?
