Hey guys!
First off, I need to say that we ABSOLUTELY have to come up with a name for our group next time we meet!
Yayyyy! I did it!
So in class today we went over our reading assignment and did our daily quiz.
Here are the questions with the answers:
1. Who do some consider philosohpy's "patron saint," an Athenian whose enemies said he asked too many questions as he went around deflating people's knowledge claims while denying he knew anything himself?Socrates 2. What was a successful conversation and what was wisdom, for Socrates? A conversation with Socrates was probably successful if confused somebody and made someone question their own view on things. (pg. 2-3 in ALHP) 3. Socrates did not write anything down. Who wrote down and kept record of Socrates conversations and ideas, as well as his own?Plato 4. What theory of Plato's describes thinking about things in an abstract way, not through examples and sensual perceptions? The Theory of Form 5. Who did Socrates meet and talk with, as both made their way to court? (PB)Euthyohro 6. Name one of the three Socratic substitutes for immortality.Having children, doing a glorious a deed, or a work of art. (I thought this was interesting) 7. What "transcendent vision" represents Plato's concept of the highest love?
The form of beauty.8. What is a "Socrates cafe?" (AP)
The form of beauty.8. What is a "Socrates cafe?" (AP)
A place for informal gatherings to have philosophical conversations with the public.
9. What is Open Court, and what's an example of what they do?
A publishing house.
After discussing all of this, we went to Dr. Oliver's post or blog or whatever and read through all of that which I thought most of it was pretty interesting.
Remember this next time in class:
In our groups we kind of discussed what we wanted to do for our group report. Pop culture will be fun!
Im going to wrap this up! You guys make sure you read.

The article name alone should interest you, but it talks about Aristotle's take on anger.
Oh and an idea for the group name is "Team Meme" since all of our authors like posting memes apparently. Haha.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't know if this counts as a link, but here are some books by Open Court Publishing that involve pop culture and philosophy so we can come up with ideas for the group project: http://opencourtbooks.com/categories/pcp.htm
I personally think "The Walking Dead and Philosophy" or "Breaking Bad and Philosophy" would be amazing.
I agree that "The Walking Dead" and "Breaking Bad" choices are great. I believe that "Breaking Bad" would have a lot of underlying things to it!
DeleteSure it counts.
