NoPhi (16/3)

Hey guys!

Today we started off our discussion talking about whether or not history always repeats itself. We went on to how there will always be humans who want more power. We talked about the population boom of the world, and what might happen if we need to start competing more over resources and territory. We also talked about Maslow's hierarchy of needs, and whether we think you can skip through the steps, or if they really apply every time.

After the floater change, somebody asked us the question of whether we'd rather be a ruler who rules through love or through fear. It went on to discussion of the deterioration of rights in America, if there could be another civil war, and if there were, who would make up the opposing sides.

The last floater change led to talk about Hegel, how he perceives the end times, and how we ourselves won't ever experience the "end."

Any other thoughts about it?

I often wonder if the civilization itself will still be around to see the end of days or if a man made apocalypse will take away that chance

Either way the sun will stop having enough light to sustain earth eventually so one way or another we will all die out.

I think to be a capable ruler you need to be feared and loved. A ruler that is loved by everyone he rules over may not be feared by another kingdom and that could lead to be being taken over. A ruler that is too strict and is feared can lead to be overthrown by his own people.

As a floater I enjoyed your groups discussion on history repeating itself, and how the world could reach capacity and ultimately people would began fighting over scarce resource similar to the fall of the Roman Empire.

I enjoyed our first discussion of if history repeats itself or not. I think it is an obvious answer as Dr. Oliver pointed out but many times we still believe we do not need to study it because we believe we are smarted than that; however it seems to be a continuous cycle.
