The Nameless 8 (Section 17, Group 1)

In group today, we discussed our presentation some more. We've encountered some difficulty in that we are still lacking a book to work with. The e-book is $9.99 and while I hate to buy it when we supposedly already have a physical copy, we sort of need a copy to get started. Does anyone have any qualms about splitting the price of the e-book evenly amongst ourselves? If not, I can purchase a copy in the next day or two.

For the time being, the table of contents of The Wizard of Oz and Philosophy is available for view on Google Books. The group has decided that we'll each take an essay from the book to read and prepare a 5-10 minute presentation about. Each of us will do a separate presentation on an essay of our choosing, and the order we'll present will be in order of the essays as they appear in the table of contents. Lee has chosen #6 ("Oz Never Did Give Nothing to the Tin Man") and I have chosen #12 ("Dude, When Did Pink Floyd Write a Soundtrack for The Wizard of Oz?"). I think a few other essays have been picked already but I don't remember which ones, so if you've chosen yours please mention so in a comment here, and if you haven't chosen yours then please consult the comments to make sure someone hasn't called dibs already.

Lee is doing us the kindness of paring down our study guide to 10 questions, so hopefully we'll have that done soon. Thanks, Lee!

In class, we discussed Machiavelli and Hobbes. We also discussed the question of whether or not music -- popular music in particular -- has superseded film as the most important art medium among young people. In addition to music, video games were also offered as an example of important form of art in our generation. This would have been interesting to discuss in greater length in our group but we ran out of time. So it goes.

Have a good weekend!

  2. We came to an agreement that i would do the "I'm melting, I'm melting" section.

A possible discussion question for the exam may be do you agree with Aristotle's view on happiness?

  4. FQ- Whats the name of the book written by Machiavelli? ( The Prince)
DQ- What would you do if you came into power over a land? Would you do what is right or was Machiavelli right that you have to "learn how not to be good"?
Comment- For the report I am going to read the article called "Im not that Girl" by Richard Greene. I will prepare a presentation and present the article to the class and also give my opinion and ask question what they think about the passage as well.

This is a 5ish minute video an acting out interview session which questions out Hobbes life. Gives good fact at a quick speed. Also gives interesting facts not in interview form. At the ending tells what Hobbes brought to the table to us. Kinda of cheesy acting but good info.

i dont think that music has completely ousted movies when it comes to popular culture as a form of expression. however it might be just a tad more used. i still hink movies are extremely popular. i personally love going to the movies to see the latest.
