The Nameless 8 (Section 17, Group 1)

Sorry for the late post, I didn't see the author had posted, so here ya go. Today in our group, we discussed our midterm group reports. Last week, we come to the conclusion of The Wizard of Oz and Philosophy for our topic because we all have a common knowledge and interest in the movie. Today, we went into discussing how we can divide up the work in the group and how we are going to present the project, which we are still working on. Hopefully everybody in the group can be in class Wednesday!

Kathryn mills posting here...sorry for being so late but thanks taylor! so I think our group has it figured out. we can googlebook our book and view the various articles that way. everybody needs to find an article that they'd like to talk about, whether you agree or disagree with whichever you choose, your call. lee has been reassigned to do our group fqs stugyguide so hopefully that'll be up by Wednesday. and Chelsea has agreed to do our group's outline for the presentation. if anybody has any other suggestions, comments, etc. please feel free to email me here or at kmm9e@mtmail.mtsu.edu. i'll try to help anybody in any way I can. my fq for today is what was aquinas' ontological argument? a: "faith seeking understanding," and dq is "is there really a such thing as a 'veil of ignorance' as john rawls would like to believe?" I mean, a TRUE veil anyway? just curious on your thoughts here. I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday (hopefully)!!!

  3. The Wizard of Oz is a good one. It seems like you could pull numerous philosophies and interpretations out of that one.

  5. FQ: What are the two main theories of law proposed by Dworkin and Posner?
    A: Natural law and positivism
    DQ: What makes art 'art'?
Hey guys just to let you know I call dibs on Wizard of Oz essay six. While I was watching Princess Mononoke, one of Miazaki's greatest films, a character said a very pragmatic line: "These days there are angry ghosts all around us. Dead from wars, sickness, starvation and nobody cares. So you say you're under a curse, so what so is the whole damn world...my point is everybody dies."

  6. I am still SO jealous that you're doing Wizard of Oz and I really can't wait to see it! (Just don't ruin the movie for me please.. that would be destroying my childhood..)

In response to Lee's DQ: I would like to throw in that art is VERY subjective. I find some pieces of "art" hideous, whereas they're priceless to someone else, and vice versa. I think that the definition and standards of art change from person to person, but it is also important to have a basic foundation for what can classify as art.
