Group Discussion, Section 17, Group 2
Today in class, our group became familiar with the scorecard participation system and introduced ourselves to each other. We decided on the various positions within the group and chose the group name, No Sox, to match the baseball theme. We also briefly discussed our favorite philosophers. Due to most of the group's unfamiliarity with the subject, only one person named theirs. Gretta chose Ivan Pavlov as her favorite.

Sigmund Freud was the guy.
DeleteIvan Pavlov's theory of using rewards to help train dogs was correct in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteSince I had no idea who Ivan Pavlov was, I had to do a bit of research. Pavlov was a Russian physiologist born in the 1800s. He contributed greatly to the scientific world with his study on conditioned reflexes and brain activity. I would guess that science and philosophy kind of tie in together?
ReplyDeleteWho brought up Sigmund Freud in our discussion? It was a brief but definitely a controversial one involving drugs.
ReplyDeleteWould Pavlov's conditioning experiment be considered a contribution to the field of philosophy or psychology?
I believe philosophy and science play a huge role in each other's field.
ReplyDeleteTo those who are unfamiliar to Ivan Pavlov's classical conditioning experiment; here is a video explaining it all.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite philosopher is Aristotle because he has written 150 philosophical treatises. Which range of philosophical problems from biology and physics to morals to politics. He didn't just focus on one problem. And most of them are true. For example: his classification of animals grouped together animals with similar characters into genera and then distinguished the species within the genera.

Shakespeare is my favorite philosopher because he inadvertently questioned the way families held grudges and were strict with their children, especially when it came to their happiness and relationships. It proved that hubris can really kill and probably made many people who were once enemies to reconsider why they hated one another and made people rather live in peace and harmony instead. Shakespeare is the reason why duels and arranged marriages have become significantly unpopular.
