Just wondering....How does one know one is not dreaming? How could one logically demonstrate to a skeptic that one is "really" there, awake and not just dreaming the entire situation/world around him?

Honestly, I haven't met any sane people who seriously entertained the proposition that life is but a dream. I've read philosophers like Descartes who pretended to do so, but that's different. I wouldn't lose any sleep over this "problem."

  2. Logically we all know that we are awake and not dreaming. Over analyzing the situation like Descartes did, will want to make someone pull out their hair!!!!

  3. To a skeptic like Descartes I don't believe you could convince them that we aren't dreaming because their mind is set to believe that we could possibly be dreaming. I think that most sane people can realize the real world we live in and know that it isn't a dream.

  4. I happened to find a great question after browsing the philosophy subreddit - http://www.reddit.com/r/philosophy/comments/ym6oc/if_i_were_to_take_away_all_5_of_your_senses_would/

If you are stripped of your 5 senses, do you still exist?
I also find it interesting that Berkeley famously stated "to be, is to be perceived" rather than perceiving as being.

The idea of living in a dream to me is slightly insane. Even if we are living in a dream this dream is our life so why wonder, if it isn't real to who ever, it's real to us and we must live as if it is. The sims is a great example of someone living without life without being alive in reality, however this ain't that. Dreams exist when the host is sleep or in a sleep like state , life is real.

I was the floater for most of my groups discussion
