14-2 Spinoza and God

                                                       (kung fu grip not included)

Today we discussed Spinoza and his view of God. Spinoza believed that God existed in everything we see, like nature. This is contrary to what many people believe that God is a single entity that oversees everything. Although these are two separate theories, is either one of them right or wrong? What’s not to say that nature is God? I personally felt that this question was answered when it was brought up that people felt that God should be a single entity so that way, it is easier to have a personal relationship with God. Dr. Oliver also brought up the idea that God is everything and everything is God. We also discussed the difference of following religion and believing in God.

Our discussion then briefly turned to what God would think about the Pope resigning and we had a discussion who would be the next Pope.

We then discussed that we (humans) have come so far in science. Are we now Gods since we can create life and do so many other thing that at one time we believed only God could do? After more discussion, our group came to the conclusion that no, humans are not gods because there is so much we still don’t understand. For example what starts a baby’s heart while in the womb? This is a question that our science still hasn’t answered (that we’re aware of). Our discussion then went on to ask that since humans are not gods, is it possible that there is an advance alien society that influenced the Big Bang or created life on Earth and we’re just their science experiment. The show “Ancient Aliens” was brought up that there are evidences that aliens may have been involved with early man. If that is the fact, where are the aliens? Why didn’t they stay around or at least let us know that they exist?

(Sorry... I couldn't resist)

  1. From being a floater, I was exposed to all kinds of interesting questions and ideas. Besides belief, faith, and religion, how do we know that the bible was written for the purpose in which we use it? Yes, being a believer in Christ, this does rattle my brain as well, but I like to think that there is a Heaven and the Bible is the blueprint to get there. Another brilliant question I recieved was.... If we sin when in our you and don't repent, will we be held accountable for our actions when we are older and cannot recall these events? You decide! Thank you.

  3. We had a great discussion. Everyone has their own beliefs in who's the "God"of their lives, and me being that I'm a believer in one God which is Jesus Christ, I can't say that or tell anyone that their wrong of believing in other things as God. For example, Nature does alot of things that benefit and harm us but certain people believe that nature is God that we worship. I find interesting because no one knows for sure who made or created what because of not being able to physically see it themselves, so theres many reasonings on why people believe and take in many things about God. As for me and my faith I believe that there is one ''God" and that theres a heaven, so I think whatever kind of person we were before we pass determines on where we go. Thank You.
