14-2 Hobbes

His ideas were interesting, he said people were naturally evil. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. not everyone is purely evil. We cannot be savages as he says because we have created society and laws. Illuminati does it exists or not exists? did clearly distinguish the power of the leviathan and the exerciser of the power. Hobbes is a pessimistic thinks everyone is a backstabber, egotistical, and evil the only reason we stay off each others back is because of punishment. Hobbes had a very iron fist mindset for government. Hobbes doesn't suggest himself to be the overall leader of everyone like his idea of government was. There are a lot of things that we learn that are never in history books that were left out maybe on purpose. George Washington was he necessary for the victory of revolutionary war? We can never really know what is true in the world. Free masons and illuminati what do they do why they so secretive? economy based on a finite resource, crude oil.
Talked about the economy and how we are falling into a huge debt. Debt is hypothetical. We give people bonds when we have debt towards them. Fresh water is a diminishing resource because we pollute the water around us. A Perfect World would not have money.

  1. Intersting ideas! I like the last sentense where you said "A Perfect World would not have money." But again can this perfect world be happy without MONEY???

  2. I believe all thouhght a world without money would solve numerous problems for America alone, but if ther is no money there leave something to be desired. I mean without money there really isn't a top dog. And without someone in control, people turn to state of chaos. Looks like it's back to the drawing boards! Again this isn't just my opinion, but more like the counter argument.

  3. I disagree with Hobbes because I believe that no person is born evil, its just the path some people choose in life. Also, money is the ruler of the world today because everyone depends on money so much that they tend do evil things, so if the world was without money I don't think it would be perfect because nothing is perfect but it would be much better and no one would have to worry about certain and main needs.

  4. Dr. Oliver made an interesting point about Hobbes, when we study and think about him we must also see the time period in which he lived. He wrote his book Leviathan right in the midst of the English civil war. So while being around a lot of violence and writing at the same time it's easy to see how one would gravitate to the conclusion that people are bad and need to be controlled. It was the time period he was in, that dictated his thought processes.

  5. Oh one more thing I forgot to add, it has to do with the economy discussion. It was a documentary I watched on YouTube. It was very interesting, and thought provoking. The title of the documentary was "The Zeitgeist Movement." I'll admit its long but well worth the time. It helped to give me a new perspective to look at the world. I will post the link to it:

  6. I think that in a lot of ways we need money. I hate it and I wish that we could function as a society without it but I am not sure if we could function very well. I think that we are too far gone to even try to create a perfect and idealistic society.
That being said I disagree with Hobbes. I do not think that people are evil. I think that people can make bad decisions and that they can choose a path that is not a good one, but people are innately good.

I feel like money is necessary because of the fact that eventually someone would get lazy and do the bare minimum and never innovate things because there would be nothing to gain from it if there was no money.
