Hakuna Matata Sec19 group3 MARX

We began by defining what an egalitarian really was. We defined it as a type of society where everyone makes contributions. We than began discussing the ideas of communism. We brainstormed why communism is usually badly associated. We decided that communism usually results in violence because everyone does not cooperate. Marx was very optimistic and assumed everyone was selfless and not led by greed. Is communism an ideal society? or is it just unrealistic. We all agreed that it would be realistic within smaller groups that were implemented by choice and not force. An example of this smaller society would be a commun. We all said that there would be too many free-loaders in a national economy. People who just take advantage of the ones who actually contribute to society.

  1. Our discussion cleared up alot of ideas of communisim for me. I just always assumed I knew about communism but I really had no idea what the original belief was.
    Questions on Nietzsche:
Factual-Where did he believe moral values associated with God derived from?
    Answer: the envy of slaves
Discussion- How can someone be considered a respectable philosopher is he was insane?

    Questions on Ayer:
Factual- What did Ayer believe needed to be true for a statement to make sense?
answer: true by definition and testable
Discussion- Does his verification principle seem practicle to all statements made?

The communism discussion was a very interesting one. We were able to talk about the legitimate concepts presented, even though in practice has never succeeded.

    Nietzsche:
factual - Was Nietzsche declared an author of the Third Reich?
    - Yes
discussion - What are your thoughts on the idea of human morality being a blank slate for artistic creation?

    Ayer:
factual - What did Ayer conclude that moral judgements were?
    - Nonsense
discussion - Is there any logic to this logic?

Our discussion on communism was a good one. We all seemed to agree that communism never really or can never succesully work in a postive way.

    Nietzsche-
Factual: In what kind of world does he believe that right and wrong make since?
    - In a world where God exists.

    Ayer-
Factual: What makes an empirically verfiable statement?
    - A test or observation that will show whether it's true or false.
Discussion: Does anyone find his theories usefeul?

Because communism only successfully works when all people play fair, we agreed that it was not applicable to society.
Factual: How did Ayer's beliefs affect his ability to get a job?
Discussion: Is it practical to constantly check your philosophical belief against its own standards?
