7 and 1/2 Americans (gr. 2 sec.19)

we talked about Voltaire's view on God and how he thought it didn't exist because of lack of evidence and simply because he didn't see it as real. Instead Voltaire says why would you go on faith when you could go on reason? Does this suggest he had Atheistic views on the universe? Leibniz on the other hand sees god as having to exists because god is perfect and all good.

Discussion Question: Did Voltaire have Diest views? T or F

Factual Question: Was Leibniz a mathematician? If so, did it conflict with his spiritual views?

Factual Question: T or F.. Kant says you should help people in need based on your emotion and how you feel?

I agree with Voltaire much more than Leibniz. Leibniz believed that God was all and good, and that though there is evil in the world, it is the minimum amount of evil necessary. I simply can't agree with that with everything that happens on a daily basis. Voltaire, on the other hand, believed that while there is evil, we should do everything we can to make life, for us and others, good. He used the phrase 'cultivate your garden', which essentially means you have to work to make life happy, which is something I can relate and agree to much more than Leibniz's beliefs.
