Section 8 special group 6

According to page 244 Maimonides applied the name of God to only things of "non-existence". Such as the wacky animal elephant of one leg and three wings. Maimonide affirmed God to only positive attributes. Maybe because he only focused on things of non existence when in relation to God because things in real life aren't exactly positive in Maimonide. In other words similar imaginary combinations were borrowed from real things to become these wonderful, "positive" things of non existence.

Some more discussion. I wonder why Mainmonides had to find positive aspects only from imaginary or non existent things, rather than real things. It makes me wonder if he was just an unhappy man because I will be the first to say probably with many others that there are many positive things in life to be happy for, or in other words in reference to God of course.

Factual question. What are some chapters from the Bible that are in referenced to Mainmonide from pages 244 and 245? Ecclesiastes 5:1, and Psalm 4:4.

  1. He does seem like a debbie downer. Couldn't he have just used faith in God to help find happiness like many people do?

  2. maybe he just liked the ideas of things more than actual physical elements and that we dont need to hold our possessions to being of greater than god.
