  2. I do not think that people need to be threatened with the idea of heaven or hell in order to be moral. I think that people are going to be moral or not based on many factors such as your upbringing the peer group you hang around with and the environments you choose to be around just to name a few. If you need threatening to be moral more often than not it will not be true morality, and often threatening has the opposite affect of that which you are trying to accomplish

  3. 1) Discussion: Do feel like if there wasn't the threat of heaven and consequence for every action, people would still be "good"?

    2) Factual: What was the name of
Machiavelli's famous book that was intended as a job application?

  4. Discussion: People shouldn't have to have those threats to be moral.Morality isn't just faith to most people. Environment and family can play major roles in one's morals. If anything the threat of eternal damnation can turn people away like myself because why live a life of misery if there even stands the slightest chance of being sent to the horrible place? I would much rather be happy in the present than worry about it after death.

  5. Discussion: I don't think people need these threats, at least that's how I personally feel about morality. Back in the day when I was being raised Catholic, of course those threats of mortal sin and eternal damnation got to me, but now looking back on it, that in no way made me moral. I feel if someone is going to be moral they need to freely choose to good for the sake of doing good, not for the sake of avoiding hell. What is morality to begin with anyway? We only know what morality is based on what we have learned, and usually our religious beliefs. So does that mean these beliefs themself drive us to be moral, or are we simply being chased by the idea that we may go to hell if we do not act in accordance to the written law of said religion.

Discussion: Do you believe religion is just something that shoul,d be believed at all cost? Is religion a matter of custom over centuries and generations rather than the individuals personal connection with the higher being/deity?
