Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone

The first movie opened a great series with a few hidden philosophical entities. The original publication was even titled "Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone". Whether or not there is any direct correlation between the title of the book and some of the movies philosophical moment I will let you decide. These that I have quoted are some of the strongest ones I was able to find in the First movie "The Sorcerers Stone".
  1. "Do you know why professor Quirrell couldn't bear to have you touch him... it was because of your mother, she sacrificed herself for you, that kind of act leaves a mark...this kind of mark cannot be seen, it lives under your very skin... Its love Harry". This quote from Professor Dumbledore is a closer to the climax. It allows the hype and excitement to be closed out by an question. If we were in Harry's situation would we find it hard to find anyone who we truly believed loved us? Dumbledore is offering not only his friendship in this quote, but he is also letting Harry know that just because his parents are not living does not mean that they did not love him. He is letting Harry know that he will always carry his mothers love with him, not in his scar, but in his heart.
  2. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends." Once again a great deal of philosophical wisdom from Dumbledore. No one wants to lose a friend, especially when you do not have many of them? We all can get aggravated by our enemies, and the fact that they are enemies makes it easier to handle. Standing up to a friend can test true friendship. A true friend will understand, but that does not make testing the friendship any easier.
