section 8 group#1 (02-27-2012)

Last week we talked about Jesus. I felt that this was a very intresting discussion because we looked at a
prominent religous figure from a philisophical viewpoint. We talked about the possibility of Jesus being influenced by different outside sources. We talked about Jesus POSSIBLY doubting God. we asked the question, "IF he was doubting God would he, based on the holy trinity, be indirectly doubting himself?".

READ ME: we need to decide on the five best factual question by Saturday and Im not shure how we could all colaborate on narrowing it down. Maybe we could each post a question from the list that we thought was good and narrow those down to five. If Thats ok then here is the factual question that I thought was best from the list-----> What was Descartes most famous claim? "I think, therefore I am."

Factual Question: Augustine was stongly encouraged by his mother to do what? become a christian

Discussion Question: Augustine switched beliefs more than once in his lifetime(Example = He was a Manechean, but thought about being christian, and then setled into Neoplatonism). What should we take from this?

  1. Yeah, I'd also like to point out that it seemed to be a general consensus that Jesus was human, which I thought was surprising.

    I like this question BTW
FQ- Where does the term Islam derive its name? Salam

  2. Definitely, one of my favorite discussions thus far.
    On to Augustine though.
FQ- What was the most widely circulated writing in the Middle Ages? The Consolations of Philosophy
DQ- Knowing Augustine questionable habits does that make him less creditable or more relatable?
