Midterm: Blog #3 Philosophy and Social Media

As with social media, I’m concluding my blog posts with one form of social media that some people aren’t as familiar with, but is becoming more popular on a daily basis. Pinterest.  I know girls are more familiar and interested with Pinterest because it is absolutely fabulous, so sorry boys!
I think a lot people view Pinterest as a love/hate relationship.  I know my roommates spend hours upon hours creating boards and “pinning” objects or things that they possibly want to cook or clothes they want to wear or buy.  While some you can actually create, others are almost impossible.  I know my roommate pins things such as Tory Burch, Michael Kors and Betsy Johnson on a daily basis dreaming of what they would love to wear.  Not saying that she can’t afford any of this stuff or one day being able to, but do people create these ideas for girls in our heads of stuff that we should wear?  What makes a brand so expensive?  Is it the quality of clothing or this image that everyone looks up to and dreams of being.
This is all wishful thinking.  It’s nice to think about, but in the grand scheme of things, is it ever going to be possible or are you ever going to do it?  Sometimes you just like to imagine yourself being these things.  Do you think this good, especially for girls when they struggle with things such as weight loss growing up.  I know that has become a huge issue amongst teenagers with things such as anorexia.
I think a lot of the time people get on Pinterest because it once again like other social media websites, takes up time, is another form of procrastination and people fantasize about these ideas?  Do you think this is such a bad thing?  Some people do dream of one day being rich and wanting everything that they see or “need.”  As a society are we building up celebrities to be something more than what they truly are?  Or are they truly idolized amongst others?  Just something to ponder about because they do create an image much like Pinterest of something that most people can’t become.  Even though I put down Pinterest a lot, I do highly suggest it!  They do have some really neat stuff on there!
