MIDTERM blog 2 section 8

Socrates, NOW Plato

In my second post I would like to talk about the philosopher named Plato. Plato was Socrates student. And wrote a book called Meno that was very famous. And according to historyforkids.org Plato was born in 429 B.C. Plato was born in Athens with a very wealthy family. Also, it is said that Plato’s family was very much involved into the Athenian politics; however, Plato himself was not. Historyforkids.org says that Plato learned a lot and actually how to think by listening to Socrates. Plato found an interest in Socrates teachings. So I can see why Plato and his family may have had a disagreement for that matter. Plato even started to write down some of his very own ideas, rather than using what Socrates had said before his death. Plato sounds pretty blunt to me, because according to my source he thought that people were pretty stupid about the government and should not even vote. Plato thought that he had a better idea or a plan for the government instead of how the Athenian government went. But of course he already had a big head about most things because Plato came from a wealthy family, and sometimes wealthy people tend to think that their ideas are better than anyone else’s. Plato has a famous metaphor that most people know as simply “Plato’s cave”.
Plato's cave

I thought that Plato's cave, and this video was a very interesting way to look at things. Maybe you will think the same. Hope that you like the video!

Plato says that we are very much alike those men inside of the cave because we tend to just look at the shadows on the walls and think we understand the real world, but really we don’t. Plato’s main focus was being hopeful that people could try and predict or understand the real world. But the trick was not actually being to see it and understanding the real world all at once.
