Feminist Philosophy     Section 11, Group 4

Philosophy did not originally include women. Women really came up in philosophy and began to revolutionize socially. The book explains philosophy began and stuck with men because they performed hard exhausting physical labor. They had to provide for the family. This led to men forming constant discussion and philosophy. The book explains that women were just not a part of it for a long period of time. Nietzsche explained that “perspectives” are different from different positions and plurality would cause reform. People began to see woman as valuable in a social perspective due to the fact that it was a different point of view unlike a lot of men.

1.      Discussion: The book explains that few women were allowed to become interested in philosophy. What kind of woman were they? What role did they play? Were they wives of wealthy men or commoners, or both?

2.      Fact: What important question did Simon de Beauvoir ask? ANSWER: Where are all the woman?

1 comment:

  1. women in philosophy wanted to shed light on the fact that everyone is different, hence different view points can reflect different aspects of philosophy. they were intellectual women from ranging from the wives of wealthy men to commoners who needed to be heard!

    factual:
What famous woman shed light on the problems of the absence of the feminist perspective in philosophy in the book, The Second Sex?
    (Simone de Beauvoir)

    discussion:
How come there is "feminist" philosophy? Isn't it all the same? Or is philosophy strictly from a "man's point of view." Do you think that if the woman's perspective of philosophy had been included throughout history that things would still be the same? Or would it change at all?
