"The pluralistic form takes for me a stronger hold on reality than any other philosophy I know of, being essentially a social philosophy, a philosophy of 'co'"-William James
There really wasn't much time for discussion. But we did touch on the question of the necessity of suffering. Without it could endurance exist? If there was no suffering, could anyone be considered brave? The original sin in the garden of Eden brought evil into the world. Can love exist without evil, I believe so. It once did after all. However, I don't think you can have evil without love. Evil comes from the hatred of good. so without good--which love is--evil cannot exist.
Suffering does exist and I do believe that in certain situations, personalities do shine through to consider a person to be brave; however, I don't think that you have to be in a "suffering" type situation to be considered brave. It's merely the type of person the individual is and the personality that goes along with them.
I do agree with the statement that love can exist without evil.
Q: What is the key Confucian virtue that encompasses all other virtues within it? A:"jen" which is translated as humanity
Discussion:Confucius said that "jen" is inherited in all humans but must be developed to the point being a complete human being is an accomplishment. Do you believe we must cultivate and grow some form of "jen" to complete ourselves?
I don't think there is an unnecessary pain or suffering because I believe God has a plan for everything he does. I'm not sure if I believe in good and evil though. There are just different types of people with different views on life. Q. Who did Plato write about uncritically and admiring? A. Socrates
Q. How do you feel about Plato's "two-world" theory?
