"The pluralistic form takes for me a stronger hold on reality than any other philosophy I know of, being essentially a social philosophy, a philosophy of 'co'"-William James
I think that it depends on the person. I know many people who love the feeling of belonging to something, be it a church community, sorority or even the PTA. I also know people who love being unique and do not want to be defined by the groups surrounding them. I think that it is easy to oppose something that doesn't resonate with your own view, but both of them are good in their own way.
I believe that everyone fits in with groups. Even those who don't want to be in a group form a group of non-wanting-to-group groupies. It's not that you are defined by your group, but you still have qualities that would have you belonging to at least one of them.
I think it is human nature to identify with people you find similar qualities with. Groups are always formed throughout nature. Non-conformity is near impossible unless you are a hermit.
