Group 3 (16) Empiricism

We will be discussing John Locke,Hume, and empiricism in our groups today.

Who assumed that the mind was a "blank tablet," to be written on by experience throughout ones life?

Does all knowledge come from the senses?

Empiricism-is a theory of knowledge that asserts that knowledge comes only or primarily via sensory experience. One of several views of epistemology, the study of human knowledge, along with rationalism, idealism and historism, empiricism emphasizes the role of experience and evidence, especially sensory perception, in the formation of ideas, over the notion of innate ideas or traditions.

  1. John Locke was an empiricist with exceptions, while Berkely was more of an idealist, and hume was a skeptical empiricist who believed that all knowledge must come from experience.

  2. I agree with Hume's believe the Knowledge must come from experience. i think you can not really believe in something till you experienced it your self to truly know its true.
