So I'm really sorry that I've failed to post early twice in a row guys...

In class we talked about Kant and his three critiques. We also went through the questions that could possibly be on the test Wednesday the 28th.

Questions:

Which of these is not one of the Three Critiques of Kant?
A. Critique of Practical Reason
B. Critique of Absurdity
C.Critique of Judgement
D. Critique of Pure Reason

Answer: B

Does the Sublime change the way we think about things?

  1. I don't know if it changes the way we think about things as much as it changes our perspective of the things around us. In the book it relates to things such as Niagara Falls and the starry skies as the sublime because they are too big for us to really compare anything to, and therefore is supposed to give us perspective to "the bigger picture." I have never been to Niagara Falls, nor the Grand Canyon, but I would imagine that I would be taken back by these things just by how massive they are. Until that moment, I really don't have the experience to say if it will change the way I think. As far as the starry skies, nah, I don't think they change the way I think...but I can't say the same for an astronaut. Maybe it's on an individual basis.

  2. I think that things beyond our methods of understanding, such as the scope of the universe, can have an influence on our thoughts on life and existence. If we take into account the fact that Earth is merely a little dot amongst millions of others, and our place on this rock, humans may not think so highly of ourselves within the vastness of the universe.
